Attendance is a key component to your child’s success

Our curriculum is designed to underpin our school values of:

Teachers have high expectations of pupils; pupils rise to this challenge.

Respect

At the beginning of each academic year, ground rules are established and agreed to in order to encourage a learning environment based on respect and tolerance, where students can raise questions and confidently explore the topics covered. We encourage plenty of dialogue between tutor and tutees to speak, assert opinions or ask questions.

The focus is on open and supportive sessions where every student is encouraged to contribute and feel safe and welcome. All questions will be answered in an honest, unbiased and open way.

We cover three core key themes, which are Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. These themes encourage students to demonstrate respect for each other, their environment and themselves.

High Aspirations

The curriculum model is designed to give all students, particularly the most disadvantaged and those with SEND, the knowledge and skills to build their cultural understanding and capital to succeed in life. It also addresses the right for equal access to appropriate courses and facilities to secure skills for future learning and employment.
The PSHCE curriculum model is designed to link in with all other curriculum areas to so that students can recognise the cross-curricular links and see value in the subject. PSHCE at Ruskin builds on skills and knowledge learnt in their academic studies, to develop their abilities to navigate the world around them.
We provide a holistic curriculum which facilitates opportunities for all our students to participate in a wide range of enriching activities to help build confidence, self-esteem, communication and resilience. Positive attitudes to learning reflect a lifelong love of learning.

Confidence

The approach is focused on enabling our students to develop the deep and sustained powerful knowledge they need to become active and successful citizens.

It promotes deep thinking, autonomy and independence and ensures that gaps in students’ knowledge and skills are actively addressed. Memory retrieval practices are embedded so students feel confident addressing the issues and discussion raised.

This is a curriculum in which British and humanitarian values are embedded and enable every student to become well informed and active citizens of the school and community, which will in turn provide our young people with the tools and confidence to make a positive difference in the world around them.
