Attendance is a key component to your child’s success

Year 7
Catch up Funding

The Year 7 Catch Up Premium is a government initiative to help raise the achievement of students who arrive in Year 7 below the expected level required at KS2. (scaled score of 100 in Reading and Maths).

The money is used to provide extra tuition, intensive small group support and other initiatives to improve literacy and numeracy. Additionally, a number of our students are EAL learners and arrive with no prior data or below the levels of the KS2 test due to language barriers.  Therefore, the needs of our ‘Catch Up’ cohort are diverse and intervention varies year on year.

Ruskin has decided to spend the money to provide targeted interventions and small group support throughout KS3, so these students can catch up with their peers.

Last year we received £14,362

During 2018-19 the following strategies are being used:

  • Reading support – small group withdrawal to develop reading skills.
  • Numeracy support – peer tuition and small group intervention.
  • Support for EAL learners in completing homework and improving reading.
