Modern Foreign Language

The MFL Department at Ruskin aim to foster enthusiasm and interest in modern foreign languages and cultures in all our students through a curriculum which is accessible to all students and offers support, challenge and sparks aspirations at all levels.

Our culturally and ethnically diverse intake is a rich asset to language learning and we aim to build upon this unique feature of our school community in order to develop and enhance our students’ knowledge and engender a culture of celebrating difference and diversity.

Our curriculum is designed to enable all students to build their confidence and develop their talents and wider interpersonal skills in the four key skill areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking which will cross over into other subjects and enhance and support our student’s lives outside school enabling them to become successful, respectful members of the wider community.

The four key skill strands of our curriculum offer all our students the opportunity to reach their potential no matter what different skill sets or departure points they may have.

Confidence

Our range of language learning offered enables students to see the links and connections between different languages and to deepen their knowledge of language learning.

Developing confidence is at the core of our curriculum and is built upon from the very first MFL lesson developing our students into confident, inquisitive, resilient and articulate linguists who are able to build upon their knowledge based on previous learning.

We encourage and enable all students to actively participate in lessons and to value and support the contributions of others.
