Dance

KS3 Dance (Year 7 and 8)

Within Year 7 and 8 students participate in compulsory dance lessons, once a fortnight. Based in our specialist dance studio, the lessons are designed to develop students confidence, teamwork, understanding of dance principals and health-related fitness. We work within a range of groupings, and with a variety of stimuli, such as poetry, pictures, emotions and professional dance works, to create choreographies and learn set phrases of movement. Students learn about how to both perform and appreciate dance, as well as how to generate creative ideas. Dance is a wonderful opportunity for students to work together, share their creative ideas and work collaboratively.

The Dance department participate in many external performances across the local area; annually performing at both the Lyceum and Regent Theatre. With close links to HE institutes, we also work collaboratively with South Cheshire College and Manchester Metropolitan University to provide workshops and further performance opportunities. A wide variety of clubs are on offer for students to attend at lunch time and after school.

AQA GCSE Dance

GCSE Dance is a fresh and vibrant specification which includes popular performance and choreography, alongside a collection of diverse professional works. Over the course of the three years, students will develop their performance skills; participating in technique classes and will perform in both group and individual performances. We develop an understanding of the key principals of dance, health and safety and how to maintain good body maintenance. Choreographically, students learn how to create well-constructed choreographies, many of which are often performed at our school showcases and events. Six professional dance works form the theoretical context to the course, with students learning how to analyse features of performance, such as costume, set design and lighting.
